Bhubaneswar: The Odisha steel plant of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL) will be the single largest steel making manufacturing facilities in the country by 2030 with 20 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) capacity.
The JSPL chairman Naveen Jindal, who met the chief secretary AP Padhi and steel & mines additional chief secretary RK Sharma, here on Friday, said the steel production capacity of its plant in Odisha’s Angul would be increased to 20 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2030 with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore . He said JSPL would rope in strategic partners and infuse equity instead of going for debt. Naveen said that from 2021 the mission 20 mtpa would be launched after stabilization of the present 6 mtpa capacity.
The JSPL chief discussed with the Odisha top officials for supply of raw materials like iron ore and coal at reasonable price pointing out that running the plant with buying the most expensive coal and iron ore erode its competitiveness. He suggested that the government should take steps so that the closed mines are reopened.
