Rourkela: The Steel Melting Shop-II (SMS-II) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered yet another record by producing the highest ever Crude Steel in a single day. The SMS-II produced 11,413 tonnes of Crude Steel on 27th December surpassing the previous best of 11,068 tonnes of Crude Steel achieved on 21st December 2018. The Shop also scripted another record by tapping 73 heats on the same day. Notably, the previous best tapping performance of the department was 71 heats achieved on 21st December 2018. Apart from this, the best ever single shift production of 28 heats was recorded in the ‘C’ shift on 27th December 2018. The previous best performance of 27 heats was clocked on 24th December 2018.
It is worth mentioning here that with the Hot Metal production of the plant steadily increasing, it has been a challenge for the SMS-II collective to convert the Hot Metal into Crude Steel in tandem.
RSP ED (P & A) Raj Vir Singh, ED (Works) Gautam Banerjee, ED (MM) D.K. Mohapatra visited Steel Melting Shop- II department on 28th December to congratulate the collective on the stupendous performance. Singh declared a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000/- for the employees of SMS-II and associated departments on the occasion.
