Bhubaneswar: Floods cause damages to an average 14 lakh hectares farmland every year in Odisha. This has been revealed in Flood Hazards Atlas for Odisha, the books which was released by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion the chief minister said that the Atlas has identified the flood prone zones of the state. This would help in working out plans to control flood, he added.
The ISRO’s Hyedrabad based National Remote Sensing Centre(NRSC) and the Odisha disaster management Authority have jointly prepared the Atlas analysing the flood datas 18 years since 2000.
Agriculture minister Arun Sahu, revenue and disaster management minister Sudam Marandi, water resources minister Raghunandan Das, NRSC(ISRO) D.Diwakar, chief secretary AP Padhi, development commissioner Asit Tripathy and special relief commissioner Bishnupada Sethi were present .
