Bhubaneswar: Odisha police is going to launch Mission Paree 2024 to protect children from criminal and exploiters.
The Police DG Dr. RP Sharma Saturday said that the State police is going to launch Mission Paree 2024 with four key objectives:
- Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse
- Prevention of child trafficking particularly of girls
- Prevention of Child Marriage
- Eradication of child labour .
The DGP was speaking at the national-level workshop on ‘Safety of Women & Children’ , organised jointly by the Odisha Police, UNICEF Odisha and Indian Police Foundation, New Delhi, here on Saturday.
The chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, and the chief of UNICEF, Odisha, Monica Nielson appreciated the DGP’s proposal of Mission Paree 2024 and assured support for the programmes.
The workshop was attended by national level resource persons in the field of women and children. Police officers, officers of Women and Child development department, lawyers, public prosecutors, educationists, media personnel and members from prominent NGOs participated in this day long consultation programme. Number of panel discussions on multifarious issues related to safety of women and children were held during the programme with a view to evolve a strategy for the future action.
On this occasion, the chief minister felicitated Angul SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra, Special Public Prosecutor Saro Kumar Patnaik and Angul Ramesh Chandra Bisoi for successful investigation and prosecution in a case of rape and murder of a minor girl in which the trial was completed in a record time and the accused was sentenced to capital punishment.
UNICEF, Odisha chief Dr Monika Nielson also promised her support for Mission Paree 2024.
ADGP Crime Santosh Upadhyay, IGP Headquarter Asheet Panigrahi, IGP Crime Arun Bothra moderated the technical discussions and interacted with the resource persons.
