Bhubaneswar: In a boost to the Make in India initiative, NationalAluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) launched Aluminium Alloy 1200 (AA 1200),adding one more downstream product to its existing product range, that has wide application in manufacturing of LED lamp cap.
Nalco CMD Tapan Kumar Chand said, ‘’At NALCO, we continue todiversify and focus on expanding our markets with new product launches. In acompetitive environment, this new product AA 1200 will help develop new marketsand increase the Company’s profitability. The Smelter Team at Angul has workedhard to introduce a quality product that will add to the Company’s growing staturein the national and global market.’’
Commercial production of this futuristic alloy started from August’2019 at Smelter Plant. This alloy is similar to alloy AA 1100. Commercial aluminum alloy grade1200 has high corrosion resistance and boasts of high thermal conductivity andreflectivity. The alloy has a 99% minimum requirement for aluminium content andyet, is still classed as a non-heat treatable commercially pure aluminium.
With thecommercial production of alloy AA 1200, there will be substantial saving on usageof copper, which is expensive.NALCO has already developed the market for this alloy and will be branding thisproduct in the near future. The first consignment of the new product was flagged off at the Rolling Plant inSmelter, Angul on 24th Sept in the presence M.P. Mishra, ED (S&P), S.Samantaray, ED (Mkt), senior officials and employees.
