New Delhi: Elections to Delhi Assembly will be held on February 8.
Announcing the election schedules for all the 70 constituencies of Delhi Assembly, the Election Commission on Monday said that the model code of conduct has been made effective immediately.
As per the schedule, the election notification will be on January 14, while the last date for filing the nominations will be January 21. The counting of votes will be on February 11.
The chief election commissioner, Sunil Arora, said there are 13,750 polling stations in Delhi. He added that 90,000 officials will be deployed for the poll duties.
Arora whose tenure is ending on February 22, lamented that some constituencies in Delhi had lower turnouts than Maoist-affected areas. But he assured that the EC is taking all steps to ensure more people come out to vote. Arora also announced pick and drop facilities for senior citizens as well as postal ballot facility for people with disabilities and senior citizen above the age of 80.
The Aam Admi Party(AAP) is ruling Delhi city State with 67 MLAs out of the 70 in the Assembly. The BJP and the Congress are the two major contenders of AAP in the forthcoming State elections.
