Bhubaneswar: Japanese investors are keen to invest in Odisha’s steel and tourism sectors.

Japanese ambassador Satoshi Suzuki Thursday said that Japan is interested to invest in Odisha’s steel and tourism sectors.

The senior diplomat who met Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and union steel minister Dharmendra Pradhan, here at State secretariat today, and discussed about investments in steel and tourism sectors in the State.

Santoshi Suzuki has assured that Japan will be a partner in the Make-in-Odisha conclave organized by the State government. Japan was a partner of Odisha goverment in the Make-in-Odisha conclave in 2018.

The union steel minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, said that the Centre is targeting to achieve 300 million steel making capacity. The present capacity is 140 million tonnes.

Pradhan said Arcelor Mittal which has acquired the steel assets of Essar Steel is roping in Nippon Steel of Japan. Similarly, JSW which has acquired Bhusan Power & Steel is also taking a Japanese partner, he added.
