New Delhi: Union shipping secretary Gopal Krishna has expressed his concern over State governments’ restrictions on movement of trucks and trailers to and from ports as part of its Lockdown enforcement.

Gopal Krishan, in letters to chief secretaries of States, has pointed out: While reviewing the operations of ports through video conferencing with all major ports chairmen today, it is brought to my notice that in some States, movement of trucks/trailers to and from ports/ container freight is being restricted resulting in congestion at the ports and affecting movement of goods to and from hinterland.”

The secretary while quoting the union shipping ministry order of 23.03.2020 which declared transport service of carriage of goods by water or any service connected with loading, unloading, movement or storage of goods in any port as essential service, has urged the State chief secretaries to instruct the district administration accordingly and treat the Port operation as an essential service.
