Bhubaneswar: As the migrant workers are set to rush in after the lock down period over, the Odisha government has made Gram Panchayat (GP) and urban local body (ULB) as a unit in its fight against Covid-19 pandemic. The State government has deligated the district magistrate power to Sarpanches to contain Covid-19 pandemic.
The Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, in a video message on Sunday, said: ” We have to take decentralised approach. Keeping humanity in mind, we have take decisions. For this the cooperation of the community is needed. We have to work with GPs and ULBs”.
The chief minister said, ” The Sarpanches have been given district magistrate power to fight against Covid-19.”
Giving a hint that the government will take steps to bring back the migrant workers after the lockdown period is over, the chief minister said there would be facility at Panchayat level to register the migrant workers returning to the village. They would be kept in 14 days quarantine at government expenses. After the quarantine period is over each would be provided Rs 2000.
