Bhubaneswar: The nation paid a rich tribute to the great Indian classical musician Padma Shri Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi on his 88th birth anniversary on Monday.
Born on 10th August 1932, Pandit Raghunath Pangrahi was a great exponent of Jaydev’s Gita Govinda. A trained classical singer Panigrahi had a playback singing career in South Indian films. He left the Chennai film industry to join his wife Padma Shri Sanjukta Panigrahi, a pioneer in Odissi classical dance to provide vocal music support.
Raghunath Panigrahi was busy in promoting Gita Govinda and Odissi dance being associated with Nrityagrama and various other organisation till his death on 25th August 2013.
