Chennai: In a major set back to Puducherry Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi who was in controversy for her interference in the functioning of the Congress’ V Narayanswamy government, the Madras High Court on Tuesday has restrained her from doing so. The court has said the Lt. Governor “cannot interfere” in the day-to-day affairs of the elected government.
Justice R Mahadevan has observed: “The administrator cannot interfere in the day to day affairs of the government. The decision taken by the Council of Ministers and the Chief Minister is binding on the secretaries and other officials.”
Congress MLA K Laksminarayanan had filed a petition in the court challenging two communications issued by the union home ministry elevating the power of the Lt. Governor.
Disposing off the petition, Justice R Mahadevan has set aside the two communications of the union home ministry.
