New Delhi: Dr Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra, variously called as ‘Cyclone Master’ and ‘weather man’, resumes the charges of Director General of IMD. He is the first Odia enshrined in this top most position.
Dr Mohapatra is also the first ever youngest person after 1950s to adorn the post of DG. He is from the village Rajgurpur in Bhadrakh district. He completed his matriculation from Aparti Charan High School, Ghanteswar and graduation from Bhadrakh College.
Dr. Mohapatra has also been elected to Executive Council of World Meterogical Organization at Geneva this year. Govt of India have nominated Dr Mohapatra as permamenet member to WMO from India. On his joining Dr. Mohapatra said, “apart from upscaling the performance level in IMD, we would try to promote startups in this field through data sharing and technical guidance which would help in ushering of New India”
