Bhubaneswar: CRPF Delhi emerged as champion in the All India Police Hockey Championship 2019 as it defeated BSF Jalandhar in final match played at Kalinga stadium, here on Tuesday.
In another match Odisha Police defecated Haryana Police to acquire third position in the Championship tournament which concluded today.
The final match of the tournament was held at 11 AM between CRPF, Delhi and BSF, Jalandhar. It was a well contested match and players of both the team played an excellent hockey. Finally, by dint of skill and experience CRPF, Delhi won match by the margin of 4-2 goals. Thus, CRPF, Delhi became the champion of the All India Police Hockey Championship-2019. BSF, Jalandhar was satisfied with the 2nd position in the tournament. Deepak, Bikash Kujur, Saroj Ekka and Rabindra Kujur scored 1 goal each in the match. Similarly, the Hatinder Singh and Kanwarpal Singh succeeded in scoring goals from BSF, Jalandhar. Ignacius Toppo was the captain of CRPF, Delhi and Sharnjit Singh was the caption of BSF, Jalandhar.
The first match today was played between Odisha Police and Haryana Police to bag the 3rd and 4th position of the championship. Odisha Police played a superb hockey today and out played Haryana team by a comfortable margin of 3-0 goals. Thus, Odisha Police got 3rd position in this year’s championship and Haryana Police got 4th position. Bikas Barla, Ashok Lakra and Umesh Kishan scored goals from Odisha Police. Anil Kullu was the captain of Odisha Police and Azad Singh was the captain of Haryana Police team
The closing function of 68th All India Police Hockey Championship was held here in the 7th OSAP Battalion field. Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra graced the programme as chief guest and gave away the trophies to the winning teams. Additional director Intelligence bureau, ministry of home affairs Anish Dayal Singh was the guest of honour in the programme. Odisha DGP Abhaya, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar police commissioner Sundhanshu Sarangi, and IG Personnel Soumendra Priyadarsi were on the dais and spoke on the occasion.
Odisha Police has organised the 68th edition of All India Police Hockey Championship-2019 at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar from 16th to 24th December, 2019. As many as 25 teams consisting 500 players, more than 50 officials and trainers from Police Organisations of different States, Union Territories and Central Armed Police Forces participated in this mega annual sporting event. About 50 technical officials had been roped in to conduct the championship. The Championship was organised under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board. Odisha government’s sports and youth services department provided the necessary support in the shape of technical manpower and material to make this event a grand success. Odisha Hockey Association also provided required logistics and technical support.
The Mascot for the Asian Athletic Championship and World Cup Hockey “Olly” representing the rare Olive ridley Turtle was taken as the Mascot of this event as well.
Separate committees were formed under the leadership of senior officers of State Police for better co-ordination and management of the event. DGP Abhay, was the cairman of the Organising Committee. Sudhansu Sarangi and ADGP(Hdqrs) V.T.Mishra were the vice-chairman of the organising committee. IGP Operation Amitabh Thakur was the organising secretary of the Championship who monitored everything on a daily basis. Senior officers like R.P.Koche, Saumendra Priyadarsi, Rekha Lohani, J.N.Pankaj, Anirudh Singh, Anup Kumar Sahoo headed different Committees.
As many as 35 matches were played in the tournament.
