Kolkata/Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Amphan will hit West Bengal with a wind velocity of 135 to 145 km per hour speed, said IMD sources. The cyclone will make the landfall in Sunderban area between 2 to 6 pm of 20th May, the IMD sources said.
The districts Mednipore, south and north 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hoogli and Kolkata districts of West Bengal are going to be worst affected. Capital city Kolkata is going to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty wind on 20th May.
About 40 NDRF teams are deployed in the vulnerable districts of the two States. West Bengal has evacuated over 3 lakh people from the low laying areas.
The Odisha special relief commissioner (SRC), PK Jena, said that 1.16 lakh people have been evacuated from their houses by 1 am of Tuesday night. The people have been sifted to nearby cyclone shelters and schools. He said evacuation exercise is going on.

The incessant rainfall from 19th May night and the wind has caused damages to houses, trees, electric installations in Dhamra, Paradip, Talasari areas.
The districts of Balasore, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Jagatsingpur were given orange warning while the districts of Khurda, Jajpur, Puri and Mayurbhanj yellow warning.
