Paradip: Paradip Port Trust (PPT) has tightened it’s health safety measures as a crew of a ship found Covid-19 positive.
An Indian crew of cargo ship MV Alonissos, berthed at Mechanised Iron Ore Berth on 13t June for loading was tested positive. as ruled out any chance of community spreading of Corona in the locality, in the light of one crew of Indian Crew of from the Cargo Ship, MV ALONISSOS, being tested positive. While infected crew from Tamil And has been sent to Covid hospital for treatment two persons- the driver of a vehicle and the representative of the concerned shipping agency -have been subjected to quarantine, as precautionary measure.
The port authority has said that there shouldn’t be any panic in the locality.
“The DG (Shipping), ministry of shipping, has prescribed a detailed SOP and protocol with regard to sign-on and sign-off to be followed for controlled crew change of Indian seafarers at Indian ports and anchorages, which is being followed at Paradip Port. To facilitate and regulate crew change for seafarers, the ministry of home affairs has also issued an SOP on April 21 to permit the movement of persons to sign on and sign off at Indian ports. The Port deals with the case as per the prescribed protocol of government.”
Port Authority, in a press statement said, “PPT Authority has been monitoring the deadly Covid-19 situation and put various measures in place to prevent any possible outbreak. Sanitisation inside the prohibited areas, social distancing, thermal scanning, hand sanitisation, use of nose masks inside the prohibited area and the offices, have been strictly enforced. For welfare and engagement of migrant workers in the Port works, PPT is following well defined standard protocol. All precautions are being taken and people should not fall prey to panic and rumours.”
