Bhubaneswar:The Odisha governor, Dr.SC Jamir, urged the cost and accountancy professionals to enhance their skill to match the industry requirement.
The governor, while addressing the Young Cost & Management Accountancy (CMA) Award function, here on Saturday, said nearly two-thirds of orgnisations around the world are becoming increasingly worried about the growing skills shortage. The gap between the skills of the current workforce and the skills businesses need to achieve their growth plans is widening, he added. Stating that business leaders are looking for people with a far wider range of skills than ever before for improving growth prospects, he said with rising costs in all sectors, reducing overheads and expenses, sharing resources and expanding offerings to provide a more diverse selection of services to clients does make some sense.
Jamir said, in today’s world, facing the highly competitive and globalizing environment, everyone in every profession must aspire to be well equipped for more and more challenges. So, he added, to succeed in today’s accounting, finance and audit environments, to cope with the rapidly changing business environment as the International Accounting Standard is also changing rapidly, professionals are expected to have a wider range of skills than ever before.
The governor gave away the Young CMA Awards at the funcion, organized by the Bhubaneswar Chapter of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India(ICAI). ICAI president Sanjay Gupta, council member Niranjan Mishra, ICAI, chairman Siba Prasad Kar, secretary Damodar Mishra.
