Rourkela: The first consignment of 300 tonnes API X-70 Plates, an import substitute grade plate rolled at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) state-of-the-art New Plate Mill was flagged off on 31st October, 2020 by RSP CEO Dipak Chattaraj. ED (Works) P K Dash, and CGM (New Plate Mill) Rajiv Ranjan were present on the occasion.
The consignment is part of an order of 6000 tonnes. After successful testing of the first consignment of 300 tonnes, the balance 5700 tonnes of plates will be supplied. The pipes made from these plates will be used for gas pipe line jobs.
Chattaraj praised the RSP collective for the achievement and said that with rolling of API X-80 Plates, RSP would be able to enter a niche segment of the market. P K Dash congratulated the collective for the stupendous success.
The New Plate Mill has been making efforts to develop the above grade product since 2017 which is primarily imported. The success in development of the import substitute and the subsequent fulfilment of the trial order will help the country save substantial foreign exchange.
