New Delhi: The ministry of I & B Wednesday appointed veteran actor Anupam Kher as the new chairman of country’s prestigious film school — Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). He will replace the most controversial chairman Gajendra Chauhan.
Chauhan’s appointment had caused students unrest in the FTII.
Anupam Kher, an alumnus of the National School of Drama, is an accomplished film and theater actor. The 62 year old actor has acted in over 500 films and plays. He has also appeared in international films such as Bend It Like Beckham ,Lust, Caution and Silver Linings Playbook. He has been conferred with Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Bhushan in 2016. Kher has served the Central Board of Film Certification and National School of Drama as chairman.
Kher’s actress wife Kiron Kher is an elected BJP Lok Sabha MP from Chandigarh.
