Bhubaneswar : Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi Friday reviewed the Rs 210 crore Mahanadi Riverfront Development project and directed that the project be completed in time.
The CM said that the process of launching the project be completed soon and works should started immediately.
The project in the first phase aimed at developing and beautifying 426 acres of land along the bank of Cuttack city to a national level tourist spot. As per the direction of National Green Tribunal, 284 acres of land will be developed as green belt. The remaining 142 acres will be made tourism spot and provisions for festive events. The development project will include Odisha Haat, Heritage Village, Picnic Area, Interpretention Centre, Foodcourt, Garden, Beautification of water bodies along the coast.
The CM directed that the project be developed in line with Sabarmati model of Gujarat.
Majhi said that the works taken up for strengthening the Mahanadi banks by the Water Resources department be made attractive.
The CM said that in the second phase the Dhabaleswar Temple area and the isle near National Law University will be taken up for development and beautification..
He suggested that facilities be developed for plying cruise in Mahanadi river.
Urban minister Dr. Krushnachandra Mohapatra, Chief Secretary Ms. Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary to CM, Saswat Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary Urban Ms. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary Water Resources Ms.Subha Sharma, Principal Secretary Finance Sanjiv Mishra, Director Muncipal Administration Arindam Dakua and Commissioner CMC Ms. Kirandeep Kaur Sahota were present.
