Bhubaneswar: The Odisha governor, Dr. SC Jamir, Friday said that the natural endowments of minerals being non-renewable and so greater focus should be on use of efficiency and waste utilisation.
Inaugurating national conference on Waste to Wealth in Mineral and Metallurgical Industries, organized jointly by the Institute of Metals, Bhubaneswar Chapter, CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology and Nalco, governor said, there has been of late a renewed focus on minimizing waste production, when the ever-increasing quantities of waste from energy and materials production and consumption began to have wide-scale environmental impacts. The conventional waste hierarchy – reduce, reuse, recycle (the three Rs.) lists waste management strategies and approaches to address the environmental impact of wastes, he added.
CSIR-IMMT director Prof. S. Basu, Conference chairman Dr. S.K. Tamotia, , Institute of Metals, Bhubaneswar chairman Dr. R. Bhima Rao, and convener Dr. A.K.Chaubey, spoke on the occasion. Governor released a souvenir and felicitated BARC director Er. K.M. Vyas, and UCIL CMD Er. C.K. Asnami on the occasion.
