Bhubaneswar: Trouble is brewing for former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar as the CBI has produced serious facts about his involvement in the Saradha chit fund scam case. In its fresh status report relating to the recent interrogation of Rajeev Kumar, the CBI has made some startling revelation before the Supreme Court in a sealed cover.
Describing the CBI’s revealation as “very very serious” the supreme court on Tuesday observed that it can not “close its eyes” when some very very serious facts are disclosed to it . A three-member division bench of the apex court headed by chief justice Ranjan Gogoi has directed the CBI to file an application seeking appropriate action against Kumar, who had earlier headed the SIT on the Saradha chit fund scam.
Since the CBI has filed the status report, the court refused to pass an order without hearing the other party. The court asked the CBI to file the application within 10 days and Kumar and others can respond within 7 days thereafter.
The bench which also comprises justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna was hearing the CBI’s contempt application against the various senior police officials including the DGP and Kolkota police commissioner on the ground of non-cooperation in its probe and alleged destruction of evidences.
