Match 8 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 saw another rollicking contest. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted Rajasthan Royals (RR) in what was their first home game of the season at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.
The contest went down to the wire with the home side emerging on top in pursuit of 199 and they pulled it off in syle with 6 balls to spare. Kane Williamson-led SRH had their task cut out during the innings break but David Warner led the charge as the Orange Army picked up their first victory of the tournament in style. Warner and Jonny Bairstow added another 100 runs for the opening wicket before cameos from Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan led to SRH’s highest successful run-chase in IPL history.
SRH’s victory was led by Warner’s onslaught at the top. The left-hander came out all guns blazing and tormented the RR bowlers from the word go. Courtesy his efforts, SRH not only opened his account in the tournament but the left-hander also gained the Orange Cap from century-maker Samson to spoil the right-hander’s efforts.
