Bhubaneswar: First Odia Officer of Indian Coast Guard Dy Inspector General Anwar Khan was decorated with the President Gallantry Medal.
Khan was presented with the medal by the union home minister Rajnath Singh at a ceremony held at Chennai on Tuesday.
An alumnus of Odisha University of Agriculture Technology, Bhubaneswar, got the prestigious coast guard Gallantry Medal by the President of India for he saved 13 precious lives from cyclone Rohanu whilst he was commanding coast guard ship Varad.
The 1997 batch Indian coast guard officer has been decorated with DGICG, COMCG and CINCAN commendation for his acts of bravery in rescue and apprehension during his illustrious 23 years of service to the nation. The officer is presently commanding the only special role pollution control vessel of the Eastern Sea Board, Samudra Paheredar, at Visakhapatnam.
