Bhubaneswar: Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday announced Rs 100 crore Urban Wage Employment Initiative (UWEI), an emergency scheme to provide jobs to urban poor. The scheme is to benefit 4.5 lakh poor families living in 114 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the State.
Under the scheme, labour incentive works will be taken up with an aim to provide jobs to the urban poor. The wages will transferred to the accounts of the worker on weekly basis through his/her bank account. The scheme will continue for six months till the end of September,2020. The Mission Shakti will implement the scheme through the Women Self-help.Groups .
“The scheme will provide the much needed livelihood support to the poor, labourers and daily wagers living in urban areas in the hard time of Coronavirus pandemic”, said the chief minister.
