Cuttack : SPIC MACAY (Society For The Promotion Of Indian Classical Music & Culture Amongst Youth) founder Padma Shri Prof. Dr. Kiran Seth, called upon the students of Ravenshaw University to keep art and culture alive. Prof. Seth, who was on an India tour in bicycle from Jammu & Kashmir, was addressing the students and alumni of the Ravenshaw institute, at the Seven Pillars of Wisdom of the university, here on Wednesday.
SPIC MACAY was established in 1977 by Prof Dr. Kiran Seth. Every year over 5000 programs are organized in India and 50 plus activities abroad to keep arts and culture alive.
With the strong determination and dedication of Prof. Seth, he started this cycle journey from faraway Jammu and Kashmir on the auspicious Independence Day of August 15th, 2022 and paid homage to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, at the Raj Ghat on October 22nd, 2022. But even at the age of 74, he managed to reach 20 km per hour with great effort and determination at a speed of 70 km/day. After crossing, he reached Kanyakumari on December 31, 2022. After that, he traveled a long distance of 8000 km through Mumbai, Nagpur, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and inspired the students, teachers, teachers and administrators of various educational institutions, schools, colleges, residential schools to continue their efforts to keep alive the art and culture of India.
On the 17th of September, he reached Odisha’s Jharsuguda. After passing through Sambalpur, Titilagarh, Redhakhol, Bainda, Angul, Athagarh, he reached Bhubaneswar on 1st October. Till now, he has reached out to various educational institutions like ODM School, Sai International, KV Central School – 3, KIIT University, Srusti Academy, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Century University, AIIMS, Amrita School, IIIT, NAIZER, IISER etc., to keep arts and culture alive and he has expressed their opinion regarding the same. Then he will pass on to Chandikhol, Bhadrak, Baleswar, Jaleswar and will travel towards West Bengal and reach IIT Kharagpur. Today in the presence of the honb’le Vice chancellor of Ravenshaw University Prof. Sanjay Kumar Nayak, Registrar Kanhu Charan Mallick, CPGC Prof Luna Samantha, Chairperson – Cultural Council Prof Urmishree Bedamatta, Padmashree Prof (Dr.) Kiran Seth in a crowd of distinguished faculty and students had a session about his cycleride, about volunteerism in SPIC MACAY and his speec inspired everyone in large numbers. The session was moderated by Subhransu Dash of the English department.
