Bhuaneswar: Odisha is racing ahead in its preparedness to provide treatment facilities to Covid 19 patients.
On Monday, the State government’s third facility, a 525 bedded Odisha Covid Hospital, plus 20 beded ICU facility at SOA campus 2 has been made ready to serve. The State facility will be managed by SUM Medical College & Hospital supported by MCL .
SUM’s COVID Hospital is largest in Odisha and second largest hospital in India.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik interacted with the doctors and healthcare workers of the hospital through video conferencing. He appreciated their commitment to serve people during this global pandemic.
He, also thanked union ministers Prahallad Joshi and Dharmendra Pradhan for their support and MCL for sponsorsing this facility for people of Odisha. The chief minister further appreciated SOA for setting up this facility in record time.
Union minister for mining and parliamentary affairs Prahalad Joshua assured all support from government of India in this united fight against Corona. He also indicated about establishment of more Covid hospitals in Odisha in cooperation with PSUs under mining ministry.
Union petroleum, and steel minister Dharmendra Pradhan appreciated the initiatives taken by the Odisha govt. in the fight against Corona.
Odisha has been a leader in Covid preparedness. It all started with the chief ministers Wash-Your-Hand campaign along with the speaker, opposition leaders,ministers and MLAs. Social Distancing, Hand Washing, and all other WHO norms have been brought into practice much earlier in the State under the leadership of Patnaik.
Two other Covid hospitals have also been kept ready to meet any challenge that might come in future. Of these two Hospitals, one has been developed by KIMS, a 500 bedded facility, and the other be Ashwini Hospital Cuttack with a facility of 125 beds. Besides at district level the district administration of sundergarh has established a 200 beded dedicated covid hospital at Rourkela with Hi tech MC&hospital The total bed capacity for Covid patients now stands at 1345..
It was also informed that Odisha govt has started working to set up 4 lakh isolation bed facilities in 7000 Panchayats .The State govt is also going to set up two dedicated Covid hospitals at Angul and Kendrapada in cooperation with Sum hospitals.
Chief secretary Asit Tripathy , development commissioner Suresh Chandra Mohapatr, SUM hospital founder Manon Nayak, vice chancellor Dr. Ashok Mohapatra and senior officers were also present at the video conference
