Rourkela: The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has developed some important new grades of steel for niche market. The initiative is to maximise NSR and improve the bottomline of the company apart from minimizing import.
The new grades steel developed recently in RSP are the SAIL ARM Q&T Plates for ammunition test, SAIL WR 400 grade wear-resistant plates (up toO 16MM) for earth moving equipments, ASTM A53 grade B Pipes for export, EN10025-6 Grade S690QL (SUBSTITUTE OF weldox700) Plates and 2-Pie Q & T Armoured Plates for use in defense, ASTM A517 grade F QT Plates for Hydroelectric Projects, Normalized Boiler Quality Plates IS2002 GR2, API 5L X70M PSL2 plates against GAIL-MECON specification for non-sour service and IS 2062 E350 BR, B0 & C grades non-micro alloyed (NMA) plates.
RSP has been successful in developing the new products because of the consistent focus on Research & Development to expand its product mix and cater to the need of the prevailing market. In recent times products of the RSP have been used in many prestigious projects of national importance like the unique Secretariat Building of Amaravati, Chenab bridge- the world’s highest rail bride, Dhola Sadiya bridge- India’s longest rail-cum-road bridge, Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Statue of Unity, transformer tanks for the Raigarh-Pugalur HVDC project, Santragachhi terminal of South Eastern railway .
